Cristina Kirchner Re-elected President of Argentina
It was reported just a few minutes ago on TV that Argentine President Cristina Fernandez has won a landslide re-election with about 53 percent of the vote, with a staggering 35% lead over her closest rival the socialist Hermes Binner.
At the election headquarters of 58-year-old Fernandez, widow of Argentina’s late former President Nestor Kirchner who died a year ago, wild celebrations broke out upon hearing the news.
“Friends, Cristina has been re-elected”, announced a supporter at the Hotel Intercontinental in Capital Federal.
Exit polls released earlier in the day had all given Fernandez and her Victory Front Coalition a victory of about 55 percent of the vote, and local press and television all declared it a landslide and the biggest election victory since the end of the military rule in 1983.
Some exit polls had given her as much as 57 percent of the vote.
With the popular vote, control of the senate and lower house, and the poorest economic fundamentals dogging Argentina for some time, expect a very bumpy first year!!! Will this government run out of money? Probably!
