Getting to the Ushuaia, known as the ‘End of the World’ just got much easier. An increase in flights might mean more competition and reduced fares – but do not hold your breath!
LAN has increased the number of flights from Buenos Aires to the Argentine port city of Ushuaia to meet peak season demand for leisure cruises to Antarctica.
From October 2009, until 30 April 2010, the airline will operate daily flights to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world and the closest port for the south polar cruises.
Three of the weekly LAN flights to Ushuaia – Tuesday, Friday and Sunday – will operate nonstop from Aeroparque Airport, Buenos Aires.
Four flights – Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday – will operate via Calafate, in Argentina’s Patagonia, the gateway to the spectacular Glaciers National Park, home to 47 glaciers.
Outside the peak cruising season, Ushuaia still has much to offer, including the magical Tierra del Fuego national park, rich with waterfalls, glaciers, forests and wildlife, and the ski fields of Cerro Castor, a short drive from the city centre.
You can catch a 100-minute scenic rail journey aboard the “End of the World Train” from Ushuaia, while or for those who prefer a different style of “adventure”, Ushuaia is a tax free zone with local and imported shopping bargains.
Buenos Aires Stay organises tours to both Ushaia and Calafate, should you require more information do not hesiatte to contact us.
