Paradise Buenos Aires, Argentina - Casa de Lord, Santa Maria de Lobos. The home itself contains every creature comfort imaginable from two home theaters, one in the living room, and one in the below ground bar/disco/wine cellar, a nearly decadent hydro-spa in the master bedroom complex, as well as an outdoor pool with fountains and hydro spa, adjacent to its own cabana with showers and changing facilities. The kitchen, and yes, I do cook and enjoy it, was magnificent with every imaginable setting, tool, and utensil needed to, well, get serious about making and enjoying a meal, whether you chose to dine on one of the various patios, or internal terraces, or indoors in the formal dining room, or simply at the family table in a truly down home kitchen setting, reminiscent of those days of eating with the family all too many years back.

Diana - getting back to the weather in Buenos Aires - yes it gets very cold here in Buenos Aires during the winter and more recently, since 2007, there has been snowfall both in the city and more often in the province of Buenos Aires.
You need to take the sensible layered approach if you are an early morning riser and want to get out and see the city, but wait until the sun starts to come up between 07 (ish) and 0800. I go for a t-shirt - sweater – wind and waterproof and strip a layer off as the sun comes up and warms you through. Some days by 14h00 its warm enough for short sleeves, but by 17h00 it’s getting cold again.

Weather & Planning Vacations Buenos Aires

Yesterday, I met six wonderful Australian guys who had booked my services via Buenos Aires Stay. My Australians were freezing. I had spoken to them at least three times before they travelled and checked into their apartment and I did think we’d discussed the weather. Still, they were coming from the Southern Hemisphere and so I would automatically assume (never assume) that they knew it was winter in Buenos Aires and our ‘cockles were being frozen’ by an Antarctic weather front.

I intend to write articles for this Argentina football blog, highlighting the various clubs and discussing their histories. I will also give you a little bit of local and historical knowledge. Because when Argentina embraced football as our national sport, we also witnessed the birth of Argentina as a modern nation right at the end of the nineteen hundreds and the beginning of the twentieth century – our golden age.

My next blog will follow quickly, if you want to go along to River to watch a football match just email me as time is short, I am a member and I collect the tickets and take two to four guests to watch each game and we often stop for a drink in wonderful Las Canitas after the match.

December is just round the corner and in the Southern Hemisphere summer is here! Time to prepare my Bueos Aires Christmas shopping list, let´s see...a swimsuit, Havaianas, snorkel and surfboard.....not exactly the typical list of those in England, Europe, North America or Canada? Well, it’s nearly time for the holidays here and everyone is hard at work planning their trips inland, the coast or for those that can afford it- Punta del Este. Festivities start on the 24th December and by the 2nd or 3rd of January many Portenos have left the city.

The two most important family reunions of the year are Christmas and Mother’s Day. Getting together is an obligation; there is no way around it and no valid excuse. The Italian tradition of “primero la famiglia” (family first) and “La Mamma” was clearly brought over by the thousands of Italian immigrants that make up a big part of Buenos Aires’ population. You must share the Buenos Aires Christmas meal and exchange presents on Christmas Eve with your loved ones, after which everyone- young and old- goes out on a bender!
