When travelling to Argentina, Buenos Aires hotels, flights to Buenos Aires, along with Buenos Aires travel and Buenos Aires tours information are the primary topics travellers’ research for vacation and business trips.
When we first decided to return to Argentina, after many moons, Buenos Aires hotels were our first choice.
We often wonder why we chose Buenos Aires hotels over apartments; was it because we did not know about the vibrant apartment rental sector; or maybe renting vacation apartments was not such a big deal until recent years; or had it not caught our attention.
We are not sure, but most certainly, vacation apartments were not on our radar or research list. It was not until 2002 we rented our first apartment.
This got the Buenos Aires Stay team thinking. How many travellers to Argentina book hotels only to realise they might have saved up to 60% on their travel budgets by choosing vacation apartments?
Recently, we have received minor complaints from hoteliers about our marketing campaigns. Our search engine marketing states:
Buenos Aires Apartments up to 60% cheaper than hotels
Cut your Buenos Aires hotel budget by 60% – RENT BUENOS AIRES APARTMENTS
Some recent complaints came via one of those hotel consultants. You know the type, promoting investment opportunities in Buenos Aires hotels, bleating on about the vacation apartment sector – blah, blah, blah.
We simply told him that competition is good for business and even better for consumers. Why regulate a sector that is doing very well on its own without government interference; hotels are bigger business, this is a chance for small businesspeople and Argentine property owners to put a few quid in their pockets; he should stop bleating and start competing.
Later, we realised that he may have made some valid points and given the poor state of the world travel market, we had to consider that hotel rates might be falling; maybe hoteliers had discounted Buenos Aires hotel room rates and hotels were now cheaper than apartments.
Our earlier research told us that quality low cost hotels rooms were as rare as Rocking Horse… well you get the picture. Our claims save up to 60% on Buenos Aires hotel room rates were well founded and based on hard and fast research, but we thought it wise to research the sector once more.
It is important that the tourist sector think us fair and even-handed, and, we must add that vacation apartments are not for everyone. We clearly compare Buenos Aires vacation apartments and hotels in an earlier informational release to our Buenos Aires Blog.
We chose the first 10 hotels listed at Google.com. We searched as travellers might search Google for hotels and the first ten search results appear below:

We telephoned the above hotels for their room rates during July 2009. We pushed hard for their best deals for a double room for a 7-night stay. It is winter, we have a world recession and Buenos Aires hit by Swine Flu (Gripe).
If Buenos Aires hotels were discounting their room rates, it might be an ideal opportunity to gauge the market somewhere near the bottom – we chose the second week September, usually a quiet month.
- We use the order above to show US Dollar rates for a seven-day vacation staying in a Buenos Aires hotel
- We choose a quality vacation apartment for a seven-day apartment rental including our fee
- We show the amount saved in as a percentage and in USA Dollars
