We have lived on and off in Buenos Aires for two years, moving between London, Buenos Aires and Belize city.
We are relieved to be back to Buenos Aires for the spring and summer, and must add that we have really missed Buenos Aires City.
People we meet ask us why we love Buenos Aires. They hear it described as being polluted, overpopulated and a faded European enclave in the Americas. Certain areas of the city require some tender loving care, but that goes for every capital city.
Today, we walked from Recoleta to Palermo Soho – truly stunning. We took the most scenic route that starts at Recoleta Village and uses some of Buenos Aires’ most elegant avenues and beautiful parks to weave your way to Palermo Soho.
We highly recommend this walking tour as one of Buenos Aires’ best walks.
Take your time, use all the green spaces along the way, there are many.
The sun was warm and sky blue, it seemed liked spring had graced us with its presence all too early. It was a glorious day for a walk; our mission was lunch at our favourite lunchtime eatery, Mott, El Salvador 4685. It used to be our favourite lunchtime eatery. The food has gone downhill and we would no longer recommend Mott.
You find some of Buenos Aires best attractions around Recoleta Village – the Plaza Intendente Alvear, the Recoleta Cemetery, the Basilica de Pillar, the Recoleta Cultural Centre and at the weekend, there is a market set up around Plaza Francia.
This particular part of Recoleta has undergone some recent works to upgrade the walkways and plant-out what looks like lilies, promising a display by spring. This particular area is very grand and offers some wonderful photo opportunities.
If you head for Avenida del Libertador you will see lots of green spaces all round you and a footbridge that takes you over the busy road to Avenida Presidente Figueroa Alcorta where on your right you will see the Floralis Generica, a huge metallic flower glistening in the sunshine.
In addition, there are many museums and art exhibitions linked here for your convenience
You only have to walk for about 15 minutes along Avenida Presidente Figueroa Alcorta, a most impressive avenue, to reach the start of the wonderful green spaces that lead you into the Parque 3 de febrero.
Parque 3 de febrero is the start of Palermo’s fantastic green spaces and there is just so much to see.
Walk up to Avenida Sarmiento and then turn left, around this location are the Jardin Zoologico (zoo), the Hippodrome, Jardin Botanico Carlos Thays which takes you very nicely to Plaza Italia and the start of Palermo Soho.
We really took our time. We took a few photos and reached El Salvador in the heart of Palermo Soho in just two hours.

Today we went on your walking tour, probably saving ourselves a lot of money. Thank you, we are budget travelers and your advice was spot on. A great walking tour and lots to see. No one in their right mind could call the main barrios we have visited so far faded. Buenos Aires is an amazing city. Could you suggest something for Sunday?
