LUXURY ARGENTINA -

This weekend we traveled to Lobos (Buenos Aires Province) to stay at the exclusive and world renowned Santa Maria de Lobos Polo Club. It is out of season, but we fancied a quiet (no polo) weekend with good food, good wine and good company, and a rest from the hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires city.
We wanted a luxury Argentina experience, close to Buenos Aires city, in a private setting, without being bothered by hundreds of day visitors or lots of other paying guests – very difficult to find that type of accommodation in Argentina and most estancias we have visited would not meet our need for privacy. More to the point, without a good set up at the house you choose (a car and staff), the self catering option often leaves guests a bit stranded and many travelers quite rightly think they would be best in a hotel – that’s not the case at Lobos.
We chose one of the most exclusive private houses (now available to paying private guests) in Argentina – luxurious and great fun with features such as a disco, pool and club room – the truly amazing newly built classically designed state of the art polo Estancia No. 1. – so-called because it overlooks the Santa Maria de Lobos Polo Club’s No.1 playing field on a working 875 acre polo ranch just 90 minutes from BA right on the edge of a nature reserve and lagoon – it’s a stunner!
We decided to rent the entire house for the minimum 4 days (if you want the whole house) with 3 other couples (friends) – it is luxury and super value for what you actually get for your money, with breakfast, dinner and drinks (coffee, tea, juice, wine and beer included). If you want the full guided experience the owner employs a guide (www.buenos-aires-experience.com) at your expense, you can walk for miles, go boating on the lagoon and there is more than one good local option for some of the best polo schools in Argentina, as well as horse riding and other adventure activities all within the local vicinity.
We (my couple) chose to take the super luxury master suite at additional cost within our group, which is one of five smashing rooms that clients may rent (250-500 a night dependent on room and the season) if you do not need the whole house that is. If you seek the whole house it is worth speaking to Terry Clarke the house manager 1538897997 – Terry speaks both English and Spanish and he is extremely helpful. You tell him what you need (within reason) and your wish is his command. On-site is a lovely couple from Bolivia who who look after your every need without actually bothering you – an art!
A tip, do not leave booking activities to the last minute, as this is Argentina and it is all a bit informal and sleepy outside the city and without careful planning and making your requests before your stay you may find it difficult to book local services – speak to the house manager before you get to Lobos.
The view from the master suite is fantastic as you can see and the suite includes a four poster bed, in home entertainment center and a bathroom with both shower and hot-tub that comfortably massages two bathers. There is a dressing area and your own terrace.
The other rooms are of a similar quality although not quite as grand as the master suite but very nice with there own luxury bathrooms, although there are no TVs in the other rooms.

Upstairs in the double size lounge our party played music and games around a huge open fire. Downstairs in the basement the lads enjoyed a few cigars, brandy and watched those ‘blighters’ in red destroy the second love of my life – Chelsea – in the premiership’s opener of the season the Charity (Community) Shield.

Below, I include a few photos of the property. If you are thinking of renting this property and want a few tips just give me a call! The luxury package can include transport, food and drinks and tours, the house offers such wonderful flexibility – the right to write your own ticket and design your own luxury Argentina stay is what makes this property unique. We went for transport, full board, a night out in Lobos and the best Asado I have ever eaten cooked by Valentin the the groundsman and Asador.
