Watch Football (soccer) Buenos Aires, Argentina…

Argentina Football Fans

This Buenos Aires football (soccer) blog is about going it alone, watching Buenos Aires football matches without a guide or paying dollar rates for peso rate tickets.  To be honest, we would rather our blog fans reserved organized tours, but some folks cannot afford the rates charged by the tours companies.  A copy of this blog will welcome football tours providers to list their rates weekly in our comments section of this blog.

From your emails, you probably gathered from various postings to our Buenos Aires and Argentina football (soccer) blog that we are major football fans.

We love Argentine football!  The Primera División (English: First Division) is the top level of Argentine Football, and is organized by the Argentine Football Association (AFA). Founded in 1893, there are currently there are 20 teams in the Argentine First Division.

The Argentine First Division has fixtures every week with matches played from August through to July.

Most Argentine football clubs are located in the mighty Buenos Aires Province.  Argentina’s most famous clubs, Boca Juniors and River Plate have their grounds in Capital Federal.

We suggest that you buy your tickets at the clubs’ gates/store one week before a game. There are long queues we suggest that you persevere. Buying tickets before games is the best, cheapest and safest route to an Argentine football match avoiding both disappointment and danger. Alternatively, use a football ticket agency or football tours agency and pay USD 80 to 150.  The possibility of someone getting hurt and possible litigation means that we no longer take our guests to watch Argentine football – sorry.

If you choose to ignore our counsel and try to buy tickets before a game, our advice is be very, very careful and if you do not speak Spanish, do not even bother going to a Buenos Aires football (soccer) game without a ticket.

Take yourself off to a game at least 90-minutes before kick-off – do not wear colors that might be misconstrued as support for any particular team – just in case you find yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

If going to Boca Juniors be very careful both before and after the match.  Get out of the ground and the vicinity of the crowds as soon as you can.  We are not telling you that football is without danger or safe, because it is not!

Find out before the game the value of the tickets.  We have paid anywhere from 50% to 100% more for our tickets, which depends on the game, the gate and how desperate the touts are to be shot of their tickets.  On average, I think we pay around $70-$80 pesos for a ticket, if I ask (Gringo), I would expect that to be $100 to $150 pesos.

We have been to lots of games and only failed to get tickets once. To be honest, it was a day when the police were grabbing foreigners who bought tickets from the touts and placing them in a van for their own safety – we made swift exit, taking two very nice Australian girls with us and finding our way home at 06h00 the next day – what a match!

We went to Futbol Loco (great place to watch sport on 30 screens, plus 4 big screens and food), Vincente Lopez, Recoleta – opposite the Cemetery and later we went on to Puerto Zuelo, a great music bar on the same street where you can smoke.  We mention these bars because they are two of our favorites for sports and drinking in Recoleta.
