Las Cañitas is a small but thriving part of Palermo’s grand family of neighbourhoods at its north-end close to Belgrano.
It is approximately five blocks square, but growing into Belgrano and wider Palermo, mainly because it is not an ‘official barrio’ with boundaries – Las Canitas is a product of 1980’s Realtor-speak.
Although small, this former tenement slum is a newly discovered gem well known for its upscale modern apartment blocks, young ‘hip’ nightlife, great clubs and its enormous density of culturally diverse restaurants.
You can find everything – Chinese, Thai, Japanese (sometimes in the same restaurant) or great Jewish and Eastern European cuisine hidden amongst some of Buenos Aires’ newest apartment buildings.
Close to the polo fields, the Hippodrome and a short walk from Palermo’s famous parks, Las Cañitas is a great place to stay just outside of the city centre with convenient access to wider Palermo Buenos Aires.
We like to visit Las Canitas at night and at the weekend, the crowd is young and professional, and you do not feel that you are in a throng of Buenos Aires’ tourist traps. You actually get to meet some real portenos!
Many of the newer Buenos Aires apartment blocks have both swimming pools and gyms, and many younger and expatriate property owners have invested in popular part of Palermo and tend to use tasteful neutral décor and modern furnishing to ensure you have a very comfortable Buenos Aires Stay.
