This neighborhood combines different architecture infrastructures. Here residents and visitors can choose between tall building mostly situated from Colegiales Station till Cabildo Ave; and also residential areas from Los Incas till El Cano avenues.
Colegiales is famous for being the home town of Mafalda, the character created by Quino, one of the most important comic humorists of Argentina. The Mafalda corner is located in the intersection of Conde and Concepción Arenal streets.
Federico Lacroze is the most important avenue of the neighborhood due it hold the commercial area.
Alvarez Thomas Avenue divides Colegiales from Chacarita and it displays old family houses mixed with some modern apartment buildings.
Its night life is full of traditional cafeterias which were frequently visited by the “compadritos and “malevos” of the time. Café Argos, located on the corner of Federico Lacroze and Alvarez Thomas avenues is kept as a historical monument with its old pool tables, due it was frequently visited for famous writer and journalist Ulises Petit de Murat and for José Biro, the inventor of the pen.
The main attractions to visit are:
• Colegiales Sports and Social Club: This is a historical club where The Polaco Goyeneche used to perform. It is located at 2860 Teodoro Garcia Street.
• Federico Lacroze Promotion Association where social and cultural events are performed. This place is used by other institutions such as The Ateneo Literario Enrique Banchs. It is located at 3955 Maure Street.
• Cinema “Las Familias”: This is the first cinema of the neighborhood and its owners, the Anselmi family also dedicated to circus activities. It is situated on the corner of Federico Lacroze and Cabildo avenues.
• Flea Market. It was built over the old Dorrego Market and it has become the most important flea market since 1968. People go there to purchase ancient objects, all sorts of furniture, lamps, porcelain, TVs, radios, etc. It is located on the corner of A.
