This city was first named San Juan de Vera de las Siete Corrientes (San Juan de Vera of the seven currents), due to its founder, Juan Torres de Vera y Aragón, and due it is located on the turn of Paraná river made by seven points of land, that keep on moving the river bed, producing water flows. It was founded on April the 3rd of 1588.
It is surrounded by important rivers such as The Paraná, Uruguay and some others with less importance.
It is a place with a lot of vegetation and regional fauna; it is the beginning of a humid jungle. Visitors can take trips for hunting, fishing and camping.
Its arquithectonic style is colonial mixed with modern buildings of advanced designs, all with vegetable ornaments, like big trees such as chivatos, ceibos (the emblematic three of the country), orange trees, jacarandas, and the pink wood of the samohú.
The main commercial activity it is situated in Costanera Avenue, in which visitors can find present shops, restaurants, cafeterias, the casino, just simply walking trough it.
Corrientes is a place with a lot of traditions, reflected mainly on the celebration of the summer carnivals, an explosion of culture. During the whole summer, tourist has the opportunity to join the caravan’s parade and enjoy the beautifulness of the luxurious costumes.
