This city was organized to be the Capital City of Buenos Aires from the very beginning.
I t is located in the Pampa Húmeda Region, only 55 kilometers away to the Southeast from Buenos Aires. It is connected with the Federal District by the Buenos Aires-La Plata Highway. Visitors can also reach La Plata by train from Constitiucion Railway station, or by car through nº 36 National Route or nº 11 Provincial Route.
La Plata has a particular architectonic style based on European design. It was designed with geometrical perfection with magnificent public buildings and many green areas, the streets that cross out the entire city are all diagonals and visitors will find a public square every seven blocks. This fact gives it the name of the City of Diagonals and made it a well known metropolis all over the world.
The weather of the city is typical of the region with an annual average temperature of 17ºC with abundant humidity due its proximity to The River Plate.
The relevant architecture can also be notice through the government buildings, such as The City Hall that displays a Renaissance style from 1886; The Government House and The Provincial Legislature building.
The most important attractions are the Cathedral, opposite Moreno Square that displays a Gothic style and 37 French and German vitreous, The Natural Science Museum, which is considered to be the 5 th important one in the world and the beautiful Children's City.
If visitors want to be in contact with nature, La Plata offers The Wood Ride, which holds an observatory and the Zoo and just a few kilometers away they will find Punta Lara's beaches a great resort for practicing water sports, sport fishing, swimming, etc.
This amazing well organized metropolis presents a busy night life. Some popular places are the New Argentinean Theatre, Coliseo Podestá Theatre, Islas Malvinas Cultural Center, among many discos, restaurants, bars, cafeterias, and cinemas.
