
The city of Salta, capital of the province with the same name, was founded on April the 16th of 1582 by Hernando de Lerma, governor of Tucumán province at that time.
It is known as Salta la Linda due the beauty of its landscapes. Surrounded by mountains and Puna desert it has wonderful green valleys full of subtropical flora and fauna, preserved in national parks.
Salta is also known due the Train to the Clouds, a train that goes through La Polvorilla viaduct at 4.200 meters over the sea level.
It is one of the Argentinean cities that still conserve the colonial architectonic aspect. It buildings were constructed with white walls and red tiled roof. On present time visitors can find a combination of this colonial style with modern architecture with a urbanization plan that includes green places such as San Martin Park, which links the city with Mount San Bernardo at 1.466 meters over the sea level.
In its surroundings visitors can find numerous villages with monuments and historic places, as well as ruins from the time when the aboriginals dominated the territory.
Salta holds excellent hotels that reflected the hospitality of the people, gastronomy, casino, municipal beach resorts, museums and fairs that expose handcrafted products, among other attractions.
