
San Miguel de Tucumán
This capital city was founded by Diego de Villarroel on 1565 under the name of San Miguel Acárgel over Ibatín fields. 120 years later was moved under orders of Fernando Mate Luna to the place called La Toma and on September the 27 th of 1685 the ceremonies for its new foundation took place.
Today the city concentrates a quite active commercial and industrial activity. The economy is mainly based on agriculture and processing of sugar cane, being the first producer of the country. It also grows sorghum, soybean, wheat, tobacco and citrus fruits among other cultures.
Its location displays a variety of landscapes that offers the visitors the possibility to carry out numerous activities.
On the east of the city are concentrated the vast plains and on the west they will find mountains, sierras and hills such as Mounts Calchaquíes and the Aconquija snowy peak.
The sierras are sprinkled with colorful woods full of cedars, lapachos, laurels, walnut trees, etc. The central park of the city is cross out by Salí River which is used as an irrigation system making the surroundings an ideal place for the development of agriculture.
Its night life is also very intense and is reflected in its discotheques, restaurants, cafeterias and casino.
